And it was all YELLOW….

Truly, madly, deeply, I think yellow can be an extremely hard color to pull off whether one is talking decor or attire. Just like a now famous statement I once said to a few close friends that has for some reason or another gone down in the books (that being: “You either want it or you don’t”), for yellow, it either works or it doesn’t.  Some people can’t pull yellow off for the life of them and some people wear it flawlessly (and often, enviously)!

For me, it depends on the shade.  I adore a deep mustard or gold, but put me in any shade of canary, and it’s over like the Britney Spears comeback.

That is why I was SO EXCITED to find in my pile of magazines ($61.79 worth) at LEAST two images that captured my heart and allowed me to give yellow a chance AND a bold one at that.  This is not the deep mustard that has been a trend color the past few seasons (both on the runways and at J.Crew), but the bright sunshine yellow that we all so fear.  HOWEVER, in both cases canary has gone LUXE.  The picture below just may effuse the most gorgeous bed I’ve seen in ages.  So bright, crisp, clean, and inviting.  It’s a hotel gone mod, comfy, and personally stylish.  And, of course, it is paired with a LOVELY gray, to which my intuition was recently confirmed by local Dallas design expert and owner of Again & Again Design Studios, Leslie Pritchard, who shared with me that the elusive color (of gray) is most definitely the new nude.

CASE #1: BEHOLD- the bed of designer Sasha Adler. I absolutely love everything about it.  It’s classic without being stuffy and has a slight mod art deco feel.  It’s given enough femininity with the addition of mirrors, the tufted headboard, and the curvy bedside table.  It has pizazz, personality, and a clean comfort at the same time.  MY NEXT BED will be this fantastic. CASE #2: The velvet yellow couch of Casey Fremont.  I don’t have to say much about this.  I just sit in my living room and picture it sitting on top of my dark gray slate floors with a Missoni throw and it pretty much says it all. (*ELLE March 2010)

ANYWAYS, I think I will be giving yellow a second glance this spring, who knows, maybe I will even try on a canary-colored pieces for size, the ones that make me oh-so-aprehensive.  Yes, hello… yellow!

*UPDATE: check out this YELLOW chair recently featured on one of my absolute favorite blogs: style/SWOON - stunning!  It’s in the air….
